Efficacy of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) Against Malondialdehyde (MDA) Levels in Diabetic Cataracts: In vivo Study

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a systemic condition that affects various organs, including the eyes. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) functions as an antioxidant because it belongs to thiol group synthesis glutathione. However, availability of cysteine in body only 15%, so supplementation can help with oxidative stress in diabetic cataracts. That will prevent reaction lipid peroxidase and formation PUFA lens membrane, which causes damage cells characterized by increase malondialdehyde. This study aims determine comparison malondialdehyde levels lenses cataract rats given or without topical NAC.
Methods: 36 were divided into control (received streptozotocin) treatment streptozotocin NAC. Intraperitoneal injection was 90 mg/kg BW performed once week for 3 weeks. GDP examination next day after fasted 16 hours from vein. In tail, > 110 mg/dl categorized diabetes. Topical NAC 4 times per At end study, extracted measurement malondialdehyde.
Results: The mean MDA higher (2.90±0.71nmol/ml) than (2.33±0.38nmol/ml), p<0.05.
Conclusion: effective reducing lowering better did not receive vivo.

N-acetylcysteine reduces malondialdehyde levels in chronic hemodialysis patients--a pilot study.

BACKGROUND Oxidative stress has been implicated in the development of endothelial damage in hemodialysis (HD). We have assessed the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a compound with antioxidant effects, on malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of oxidative stress on lipid peroxidation. METHODS A clinical trial was conducted in which 24 chronic HD patients were divided into 2 groups according to ge...

Efficacy of the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in protecting ears exposed to loud music.

Antioxidants have been reported to be effective in reducing acoustic trauma in animal models but have not been studied in humans. In this study, the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) was evaluated to determine if it would reduce temporary changes in auditory function as a result of exposure to loud music in humans. Pure-tone thresholds and distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) were...

Evaluation of Oxidative Stress in Combination Therapy with D-penicillamine and N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) in Lead Poisoning in Opium Addicts

Background: N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a putative antioxidant and has gained attention as a promising agent for chelating heavy metals including lead. Considering the animal studies results, we hypothesized that adding NAC to the treatment regimen may improve the success of treatment with lead chelators. Methods: A total of 46 patients who were lead-poisoned opioid addicts were divided into two ...

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) protects against acute kidney injury (AKI) following prolonged pneumoperitoneum in the rat.

BACKGROUND Acute kidney injury (AKI) following prolonged laparoscopy is a documented phenomenon. Carbon dioxide pneumoperitoneum induces oxidative stress. Previous experimental studies have shown that the antioxidant, N-acetylcysteine, protects the rat from AKI following ischemia-reperfusion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on rat renal function after...

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in young marijuana users: an open-label pilot study.

Cannabis use disorders (abuse or dependence) are present in 3.6% of adolescents and 5.9% of young adults, compared with only 0.7% of adults over the age of 25 (1). While a small number of large-scale pharmacotherapy clinical trials targeting cannabis dependence have been undertaken, none have demonstrated significant medication effects on marijuana use and none have focused on young marijuana u...
